About:

Beyond the Chair Co. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with feminist values that addresses the issues faced by beauty and grooming professionals who have received inadequate education and lack labor protections. Our mission is to promote beauty education reform and facilitate conversations about unionizing beauty workers, including cosmetologists, barbers, estheticians, nail technicians, and makeup artists, while also conducting research on the beauty labor sector.

Beauty and grooming professionals are essential to our communities, yet many enter the workforce with limited labor protections, inconsistent educational pathways, and few opportunities for collective leadership development.

Beyond the Chair works to change that.

Through educational resources, leadership training, workforce development initiatives, and community-building efforts, we help beauty professionals better understand the systems that shape their careers and build the capacity needed to create long-term change.
