A community nonprofit dedicated to preserving, promoting and presenting jazz in Washington, D.C., CapitalBop has a 15 year history of bringing this music to audiences and students across the city.

Through our grassroots work as journalists, advocates, presenters and educators, we’ve helped keep the city’s jazz scene resilient throughout the pandemic and post-pandemic eras.

When we founded CapitalBop back in 2010, our main mission was to support what was then a thriving scene of jazz venues. Today, most of those old venues have closed; it’s up to us to actively create the spaces where jazz and its offshoots will grow in D.C., and to find creative ways to support the venues that do remain. We take a 360-degree approach to celebrating and supporting D.C.’s great performing artists, audiences and the city’s youngest listeners.
