We train them to survive the call. We must also help them survive what the call leaves behind.

Police officers, firefighters, EMS professionals, dispatchers, and military veterans spend their lives showing up during other people’s worst moments.

They witness death, violence, grief, fear, and human suffering. They make decisions under extraordinary pressure. Then they are expected to go home, return to their families, and carry on as though none of it followed them through the door.

But it does follow them.

The effects may appear as sleeplessness, anger, isolation, depression, substance use, damaged relationships, declining physical health, or the loss of identity that can come when a career ends.

Too many members of this community remain silent because they fear being judged, losing their position, appearing weak, or becoming a burden to the people they love.

Urban Warrior Project exists to change that.

We build the person behind the uniform.

Urban Warrior Project is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting first responders, combat veterans, and their families after trauma.

At The Forge in Watkins, Colorado, we provide a trusted environment where participants can lower their guard, connect with people who understand the culture of service, and begin doing the work necessary to rebuild their lives.

Our developing programs include:

Trauma recovery education and Post-Traumatic Grit
Recovery coaching and substance-use support
Life Survival training
Leadership and personal-accountability programs
Peer connection and ongoing community
Retreats for first responders and combat veterans
Resources and support for spouses and families
Education addressing sleep, stress, anger, identity, and life after service

We are not here to replace licensed clinical or emergency services. We help close the dangerous gap between suffering in silence and receiving meaningful support.

This mission was born from lived experience.

Founder Jeff Marr served in law enforcement in roles that included patrol, narcotics investigations, SWAT, firearms and critical-incident instruction, and federal task-force work.

After years of cumulative trauma, alcohol became a way to shut everything off. What followed included repeated medical crises, criminal charges, incarceration, the loss of a career, and eventually cardiac arrest during detox on November 28, 2023.

Jeff survived.

Urban Warrior Project was built from the belief that surviving something creates a responsibility to reach back for the next person—and that no first responder or veteran should have to lose everything before feeling safe enough to ask for help.

Our message is not that the past can be erased.

It is that the past can be forged into something that helps build the future.

What your donation makes possible

Your contribution helps UWP:

Reduce or eliminate financial barriers to attending programs
Provide recovery coaching and continued participant support
Develop practical trauma, leadership, and wellness curriculum
Host retreats, classes, support gatherings, and family programs
Maintain and expand The Forge as a safe, trusted gathering place
Build partnerships with departments, veteran organizations, treatment providers, and community leaders
Reach individuals who may never seek help through a traditional system

Whether someone is struggling today, rebuilding after losing everything, or trying to prevent the job from taking over their life, we want UWP to be there.

Our promise

When you walk through our doors, you will feel a sense of peace.

You will be treated as a person—not a diagnosis, a uniform, a rank, a mistake, or a statistic.

You will be reminded that asking for help is not weakness.

And you will know that you do not have to carry it alone.

Please donate today, become a monthly supporter, or share this campaign with someone who believes in standing behind those who serve.

They answered the call. Now it’s our turn.
