Founders Day: An Evening to Come Home

On Tuesday, July 28, the TAG Family comes home.

For nearly 40 years, TAG has been more than a program — it's been a family, built on the vision of one woman who believed every Latino student deserved to see their own power reflected back at them. Lucia Mayerson-David, TAG's Founder, gave her life to that belief. She was tough and tender, fierce and warm — "one little lady with the biggest heart," as one alumna remembers her — who took a personal interest in every young person who walked through TAG's doors. She defended them to the police. She paid their bus fare so they could keep coming. She modeled bilingual pride in a world that told them English was the only language that mattered. She made them feel, in her words and her presence, like they were all her children.

Lucia passed in December 2011, but she never really left. She lives on in the little heart stitched onto every TAG shirt. She lives on in the alumni who became teachers, nurses, engineers, officers, and leaders — and who now mentor the next generation the way she once mentored them.

This Founders Day, we're gathering the whole TAG Family — alumni, educators, mentors, and friends — for an evening of reconnection, storytelling, and gratitude. Wear your TAG shirt for a free raffle entry. Refreshments will be served, and if you're moved, bring a dish or beverage to share. Come ready to remember Lucia, and to recommit to carrying her legacy forward.

The event is free, but every gift helps sustain the TAG Clubs and PANAS Mentoring programs that keep Lucia's vision alive in schools across Boston today.
