Children with incarcerated parents face the holidays without one or both of their parents, amidst reminders of what the holidays are supposed to be — happiness, family togetherness, and bounty.
For 32 straight years, Friends Outside in Los Angeles County (FOLA) has responded to the needs of these children during the time of the year that is the most difficult for them, the December holidays.
The incarcerated parent is often the family's wage-earner, often resulting in financial hardships for those left behind. Because of the inherent racism within the criminal justice system, a disproportionate number of the children are children-of-color. But, these children come from all races/ethnicities and live in all geographic communities in Los Angeles County.
Joining our campaign will help us do the following: Give a $25 gift card and new book to each child, ages 0 - 17, in the families we serve, along with a $100 gift card to a grocery store for each of their families to help provide them with a nourishing holiday meal.
Thank you for participating and wishing all a safe, healthy, and happy holiday.
