About the Event

The Fight Against Suicide was created in the fall of 2021 to create awareness for mental health, promote prevention related to suicide and depression, foster a supportive community around mental health at UGA, and raise money for the Sam L. Asbury Foundation to support its various mental health initiatives. The Fight Against Suicide and the Samuel L. Asbury Foundation were founded in honor of our brother and friend, Sam L. Asbury, who we tragically lost to suicide in 2020. Sam’s infectious sense of humor, competitive spirit, and caring heart left an indelible impact on everyone who knew him—an impact that continues to grow as we expand our efforts. 2 years ago, The Fight Against Suicide expanded outside of the University of Georgia for the first time, making its debut at the University of Alabama. The event at Alabama was a huge success and serves as the blueprint for expansion to other Universities including NC State, Auburn, South Carolina, Florida State, TCU, and SMU.
