Texas Hill Country Flood Response - July 4, 2025

The Texas Outdoor Recreation Alliance is committed to supporting our neighbors in Kerr, Bandera, Kendall, Gillespie, and affected counties now and for the long road ahead. Our mission has an important role to fulfill in a space often overlooked, the outdoor economy, which now faces prolonged hardship as a majority of the affected population. It's the space that looks and feels much like our beloved Hill Country, it's where outdoor activity, conservation, local business, and social connections converge, to produce communities that thrive!

To realize a full and lasting recovery for our beloved hill country, we must ensure pathways to save and rebuild the small businesses, accessible nature areas, recreational venues and outdoor community spaces 💚

We are all stronger together, so please find a way of letting this community know that they are not alone.

Peer-to-peer Fundraising Activation

Meet CTS rider - Matt Oakes

A Hill Country native and lifelong lover of the outdoors, Matt found a new passion for cycling just a few years ago. Facing high blood pressure and the realities of life in his forties, he turned to biking for both physical and mental health—and it quickly became more than just a hobby.

Now, he’s taking on the Central Texas Showdown, a multi-day bikepacking race through some of the most scenic and flood-impacted areas of Central Texas. For Matt, this ride is a dream come true—but it’s also a chance to give back while doing something he and his family enjoy.

Why He’s Fundraising

The Hill Country has given Matt and his family so much—trails to explore, local businesses to support, and a community that thrives on outdoor adventure. But the July 4th floods hit many of those places hard.

That’s why he’s dedicating his ride to raising funds and awareness with the Texas Outdoor Recreation Alliance, supporting restoration and rebuilding efforts for the communities affected by the flooding. He’ll be documenting his training and ride, inviting friends, family, and fellow outdoor lovers to join him in making a difference.

Let’s rally behind Matt as he rides for more than just the finish line—he’s riding for the Hill Country.

About the Texas Outdoor Recreation Alliance

The Texas Outdoor Recreation Alliance is the first and only outdoor business alliance for the state of Texas, located in San Antonio.

As an outdoor business alliance, TxORA is a member of the State Outdoor Business Alliance Network, bridging Texas entrepreneurs, businesses, and communities to a large network of industry professionals, shared learning, and collaborative opportunities.

Structured as a partnership organization, the alliance's strategic objectives address capability gaps and capacity shortages that challenge advancement of the Texas outdoor industry, small business and recreation community.

Use of Funds

Financial contributions will be fully utilized to provide near-term relief and to support efforts in the restoration and rebuilding of the small businesses, parks and trails, recreational venues, river access areas, and other affected outdoor / community spaces. These are all important components which fuel travel, tourism, outdoor recreation, and that build strong social connections with our communities and nature.

Allocations will be determined by the Outdoor Community Response & Restoration Action Team - ENROLLMENT IS OPEN!

Determinations will be a collaborative and transparent process, facilitated between private, public, nonprofit entities, and local individuals.

Requests for campaign funding will be collected, reviewed, evaluated, and awarded amounts based on the scope of need and justification provided by the requesting party.
