The Talk KC 2026–2027 Program Year

The Talk KC is fundraising for our 2026–2027 program year, to build a stronger village for Black and Brown boys across Kansas City.

For the 2026–2027 school year, our goal is to bring together:

9 Nephews (youth participants)
4 Big Bros (young-adult mentors)
4 Unks (adult mentors and community leaders)
3 OGs (seasoned elder mentors and advisors)

The Talk KC is a barbershop-based mentorship and literacy program designed to give boys consistent guidance, real conversations, leadership development, literacy support, emotional growth, and brotherhood from September 2026 through May 2027.

This is not a one-time event or short-term mentorship opportunity. This is a full school-year commitment centered around consistency, accountability, identity, confidence, and community.

Every month, our Nephews gather inside a real barbershop environment alongside mentors, educators, fathers, professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders who pour directly into them through conversation, literacy activities, mentorship, meals, and life experiences.

$3,888	Half-year sponsorship for one Nephew in The Talk KC.
$7,777	Full-year sponsorship for one Nephew from September 2026 through May 2027.
$70,000	Fully funds the entire 2026–2027 Talk KC program year.

What Your Donation Supports

Monthly Barbershop Sessions

Each month, boys participate in structured conversations and mentorship experiences focused on leadership, discipline, confidence, emotional awareness, relationships, literacy, accountability, and real-life decision-making.

Mentorship and Brotherhood

The Talk KC creates a family-rooted support network through Big Bros, Unks, and OGs who consistently show up, guide, encourage, and challenge our boys.

Haircuts and Confidence

Haircuts are part of the experience because confidence matters. Looking sharp impacts how young men carry themselves in school, relationships, interviews, leadership spaces, and everyday life.

Literacy and Communication

Sessions regularly include poems, lyrics, writing prompts, readings, journaling, reflection activities, and open discussion to help strengthen communication and literacy skills.

Meals and Fellowship

Every session includes food because community is built around conversation and shared experiences.

Youth Incentives and Recognition

We celebrate growth, consistency, leadership, effort, attendance, and accountability throughout the year.

Community Experiences and Guest Speakers

Donations help us bring in educators, entrepreneurs, leaders, creatives, advocates, and professionals who expose our boys to new possibilities and perspectives.

Operations and Program Support

Behind every session is planning, communication, transportation support, mentor coordination, professional mental health therapy, outreach, event preparation, documentation, and year-round operational work that keeps the village functioning.

Why This Matters

Many Black and Brown boys are expected to navigate life without enough consistent spaces where they feel heard, guided, respected, corrected, affirmed, and celebrated.

The Talk KC exists to help change that.

We are building more than a mentorship program.

We are building relationships that last beyond the barbershop chair.

We are building confidence, literacy, leadership, accountability, and brotherhood.
