Organized by The Warehouse NJ
Story
We ask you to please DONATE to a fundraising campaign to RAISE $15,000 by May 15, 2023. This amount will be MATCHED by THE GOOD PEOPLE FUND, which has supported TWNJ since our inception. This is an opportunity that will ensure that we can continue to move as many clients as possible and we are incredibly grateful to The Good People Fund and you, our donors, for making this possible. Please help us seize this opportunity now!
The Warehouse NJ (TWNJ) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports individuals and families as they transition into permanent housing following a time of crisis such as homelessness, abuse, natural disaster, or political asylum. Since 2019, TWNJ has been “helping to create a new beginning” for these individuals and families by transforming their new housing into a home with furniture and basic household items. TWNJ has furnished homes for more than 1,800 clients in just over three years.
TWNJ collects and inventories gently used furniture and household items for the sole purpose of supporting our clients. TWNJ works closely with our clients who select their own furniture from the TWNJ inventory and then TWNJ coordinates the move-in and placement to ensure that the home reflects the client’s needs and preferences. It is one thing to have a roof over your head, it is quite another to have a new mattress to sleep on, a sofa to sit on, and a table to eat at – all of which TWNJ makes possible. TWNJ completed 670 moves as of April 11, 2023.
Virtually all TWNJ clients are based on referral from a local nonprofit; most have secured an apartment through a government-issued Section 8 housing voucher. Our partner agencies have been supporting the clients in some capacity, but have minimal household items to offer to the clients as they transition away from their services. Community partners do not compensate TWNJ for its services, nor do they share in moving expenses.
Thank you for helping us continue to this much needed work.
