LAE is the only legal services organization in San Francisco that focuses solely on the legal needs of seniors and adults with disabilities. We’ve taken on over 53,000 cases since our founding, and served over 2,300 clients in 2023 alone, which makes us an expert in the legal needs of seniors.

When eviction, elder abuse, problems with benefits or creditors threaten, LAE is the lifeline. LAE’s services are available to all San Francisco residents aged 60 and older, and San Francisco residents with disabilities aged 18 or older, free of charge. We serve clients regardless of income, though 98% of our clients are low-income, nearly two-thirds are people of color, and 57% have a physical or mental disability.

60% of the calls for help that LAE receives are about threats to housing and sadly seniors are the fastest growing group experiencing homelessness. Seniors can receive an eviction notice for reasons outside of their control and the results can be devastating – but the work we do gets results and in 93% of the 495 evictions we defended last year the client stay housed.
