Over the course of four days in September, six swimmers from Team Poseidon plan to circumnavigate Lake Tahoe, swimming 60 miles counterclockwise from Tahoe City to raise funds to support Keep Tahoe Blue’s decades-long mission to protect our incredible lake.

Team Poseidon has organized, piloted, and completed a number of adventure swims in Northern California - Tahoe Long Way, Sacramento - San Francisco, Napa - San Francisco, Tomales Bay, and many around San Francisco Bay.

The "team" is a group of swimmers from the Dolphin Club of San Francisco with various racing, water polo and adventure backgrounds who appreciate the amazing aqueous ecosystems in our backyard and swim for fun and to raise funds to protect and improve our waterways.

Meet the Swimmers

Jeff Citron

A native of the San Francisco Peninsula, Jeff has been a lifelong swimmer and water polo player, competing from age group through college and beyond. He is an active member of The San Francisco Dolphin Club, Pacific Masters Swimming (PMS), and the PMS Open Water Committee. Over the years, Jeff has participated in countless open-water events, including Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge swims, Donner Lake length (2.7 miles) and circumference (6.4 miles) swims, Tahoe swims at Commons Beach and Sugar Pine State Park (2.4 miles), the Trans Tahoe Relay, and his annual 10K at Lake Del Valle.

A retired Environmental Air Quality Specialist and longtime Sierra Foothills resident, Jeff also manages Lavender Ranch.

Personal Statement: "I have swum in many beautiful places, but my love of Lake Tahoe supersedes all of them. The lake’s incredible clarity, be it along the shoreline or at its deepest in the center, is simply indescribable. It is crucial that we maintain that clarity for future generations. Public awareness of this mission is essential. Our relay swim promotes this important and ongoing cause. “Keep Tahoe Blue!”

Daniel Madero

A San Francisco resident, Daniel has been happily coupled for 24 years and has built a 40-year career in the wine business, including 25 years at Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant. When he’s not working, he enjoys traveling, reading, music, swimming, surfing, skiing, and is always in search of the perfect food and wine pairing.

Over the years, Daniel has taken on many open-water challenges, including two Round Trip Alcatraz swims, 18 Alcatraz crossings, 11 Golden Gate and Bay Bridge swims, nine Trans Tahoe Relays, and countless Dolphin Club swims since joining in 2006.

Personal Statement: "The energy & purity of Lake Tahoe is a treasure. I want to do my part to preserve & protect it for future generations to enjoy."

John Mervin

I spent most of my early years in the East Bay’s Orinda and later in the Napa Valley town of St. Helena where I finished High School. I headed to Berkeley for college, kids, and a 35-year career with Southern and Union Pacific Railroad. In 1996, while living in San Francisco, I joined San Francisco’s Dolphin Club initially for the open water rowing, but I soon became addicted to swimming and its associated endorphin rush. As a result, I swam an English Channel relay, round-trip Alcatraz, Napa to San Francisco relay, amongst many others, and I never miss swimming at least 40 miles over the Winter Solstice Polar Bear event at the Dolphin Club. Swimming has now curated and shaped much of my adult life and fostered numerous friendships.

Personal Statement: "Why Tahoe? I spent much of my youth skiing in Tahoe, but I really discovered the unique beauty of Lake Tahoe when my family and I began living part-time on the West Shore. Tahoe deserves to be respected and preserved for us here now and for future generations. We are swimming to raise awareness and money to assist in this effort."

Peter Molnar

"My parents built a small A-frame in Agate Bay in 1968, the year I was born. We spent many summers splashing around Sand Harbor, and one day I tagged along on my mom’s ritual afternoon swim around the granite boulders on the Boat Beach. I was ten and hooked on cold water swimming and hooked on Lake Tahoe. Since joining the Dolphin Club thirty years ago, I’ve swum Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge and many others but have really had the most fun organizing, piloting and swimming long adventure swims to raise money to protect the incredible waterways of Northern California: Sacramento to San Francisco (100 miles), Napa to San Francisco (36 miles), multiple GG Bridge to Giants Ballpark swims. Let’s protect it and let’s enjoy it!"

Ken Schwarz

Ken Schwarz is a Dolphin Club member and swims in SF Bay regularly. He grew up skiing around Tahoe in the winter and swimming in the lake in the summer. Ken's outdoor experience as a youth helped shape his interests and career. Ken is a geomorphologist and environmental planner who, for over 30 years, has been studying, managing, protecting, and sometimes restoring streams, rivers, lakes, wetlands, watersheds, lagoons, and other coastal aquatic habitats throughout California. This event combines Ken's love of swimming with his interest in protecting aquatic environments, in this case helping Keep Tahoe Blue protect the most beautiful lake in all the world.

Matt Stromberg

Matt Stromberg is delighted to be supporting Keep Tahoe Blue by swimming around the lake he has loved since he was a kid. Matt has swum numerous adventures with Team Poseidon, many of which support nonprofits, including the long length of Tahoe, Napa to the Dolphin Club in SF, and Baykeeper relay swims. Matt is a former professional dancer who still enjoys a proper physical challenge, so he is grateful for the opportunity to help benefit Lake Tahoe by swimming it in the round.
