Local news needs your support

The AFRO American Newspapers (The AFRO) knows what it's like to endure challenging times. Founded in 1892 by John H. Murphy, Sr., a former enslaved man, The AFRO has been a beacon of light for the African American community for nearly 128 years. With your much needed support, we can continue to bring news and information about the community for another 128 years and beyond, and keep you informed with our COVID-19 coverage. Your contribution is sincerely appreciated.

Your donation of any amount entitles you to a FREE six-month subscription to The AFRO's e-edition.

Donors who give $250 or more will receive a free copy of To The Front: Black Women and the Vote, a beautiful limited edition book produced by the AFRO on the occasion of the 19th Amendment's centennial. To receive your book, please email [email protected] with a copy of your receipt showing a donation of $250 or more.

Singing into Heaven to my dear and loving brother, Aaron Bass Sr, on his birthday, and to my nephew, Aaron Bass Jr. I know they are partying together with Mom and Dad. Aaron Sr. was an AFRO paperboy back in the day. He loved delivering to the seniors in the community. Looking forward to the AFRO to remain our vessel of truth for decades to come.

“Now, more than ever, it’s important for the Black community to have a trusted news source to tell our stories and to report on what matters to us. For nearly 129 years, The Afro has been there for us, shedding light on situations impacting the Black community when no other news source would. You’ve been there for us and now we will be there in your time of need. On behalf of the nine historically Black greek-letter organizations represented in the Metro-Baltimore NPHC, please accept this small donation as a token of our continued support for The Afro family.
