About the Col. Benjamin Stephenson House

Built in 1820, the Col. Benjamin Stephenson House is a restored Federal-style home in Edwardsville, Illinois that offers visitors a glimpse into early statehood life. As one of the oldest brick houses in the region, it serves as a museum dedicated to interpreting the daily experiences, challenges, and contributions of people living in the early 19th century.
Through guided tours, hands-on demonstrations, and educational programs, we explore topics like domestic life, politics, labor systems, and craftsmanship. Our costumed interpreters and researchers work together to present history with accuracy, care, and approachability.

The Jewels Ball is our signature fundraiser for 2026 — a celebration of historical fashion, community, and creativity, hosted in partnership with the St. Louis Historical Sewing Society. Their members bring extraordinary skill and enthusiasm to historical costuming, and we’re proud to collaborate with them to create an immersive, welcoming event.
All proceeds from the Jewels Ball go directly to the Col. Benjamin Stephenson House. Your ticket purchase helps us preserve the site, expand inclusive interpretation, and continue offering meaningful programs that connect past and present.
