The Sow Project is a workforce engine built in Memphis to change lives through hospitality. We take people with talent and grit, often overlooked, under-resourced, or simply needing a real shot, and turn that potential into a career path with structure, standards, and paid, hands-on learning. This isn’t a “classroom-only” program. We train in real kitchens, with real expectations, and we build professionals who can walk into a job ready to perform on day one.

What makes us different is that we don’t stop at graduation; we own the outcome. The Sow Project places people into jobs each year, and 87% remain employed for a minimum of 180 days. That retention matters because it’s the difference between a short-term job and long-term stability. And we track wage growth too: our graduates start at an average of $16/hour and typically grow to $19–$20/hour within 6–12 months. Most nonprofits report activity. We report proof.

We’re different because our model is built around the realities that derail people: transportation gaps, inconsistent schedules, life emergencies, and the lack of a trusted support system. We stay close to our students and our employer partners, providing coaching, accountability, and the kind of steady guidance that helps people not just get hired, but stay employed and keep moving forward. We’re committed to building professionals and sustaining careers, not simply offering a temporary program.
