Local news needs your support

Dear Triangle Tribune reader:

It’s a challenging time for everyone.

As the global coronavirus pandemic continues, we’re mobilized to produce news and information to help keep you safe and informed. Like you, the crisis has changed our lives. We’re working remotely while balancing family life to cover the news you depend on. Because we’re committed to public service, this content free to everyone.

Because of your interest in what we’re reporting, our readership is on record pace and you’ve sent us story ideas, questions and messages of support to keep it going. Thank you.

COVID-19 is a public health challenge. It’s also an economic challenge, including here in the Triangle. As a media outlet, we’re no different than any other business. Our traditional source of revenue – print advertising – has fallen as retailers have shuttered stores and reduced hours. For legacy media like The Tribune, we’ve got to fight harder to be there for you with news that’s accountable to the African American community and its perspective. You can count on us to bring leadership and institutions to account as we struggle with the health, social and economic impact of this scourge. It takes a robust staff to produce an accurate, trustworthy source of news and information and connect and challenge each other.

We appreciate our subscribers and donors whose critical direct support helps offset the loss of other revenue. You can also support our continuing coverage of the COVID-19 crisis and its impact beyond subscriptions. We’re partnering with the Local Media Association, a national trade organization, to give readers and organizations a way to support our work directly through a 501(c)(3) fund to enable tax-deductible support for local news organizations. Every dollar goes to our mission of producing timely and reliable coronavirus coverage – its disproportionate impact on African Americans, the struggles of local businesses and the inspirational work of people in our community.

If you believe local, independent news coverage is critical, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to this Local Media Association fund. If you haven’t subscribed to our print or digital editions, please consider it. Your support powers what we do.

We’d love to hear your ideas and feedback. Email me at [email protected]

Many thanks for reading The Tribune and your continued support. Be safe and healthy.
