Every winter, as the air turns cold and the days grow shorter, Yadestiny Treasure Chest meets countless young people whose stories stay with us long after the season ends. One of those stories belongs to a 12-year-old girl named Charisma.

Charisma walked into one of our Clothing Assistance pop-ups with her mother and 2 siblings, quietly waiting her turn to find her clothing size; she stood in a corner and asked " Is this free?"When we said yes, anything you want is your treasure to have. When she stepped up to our Chest of Treasured Clothing and spotted warm clothing for herself and her siblings in their sizes, her entire face lit up.

We watched as her mother felt the relief of having her kids warm for that winter. And she whispered to us, " Thank you"

That Clothing wasn’t just fabric.
It was confidence.
It was comfort.
It was dignity.

But Charisma wasn’t done.
As she explored the room, she became curious about the youth volunteers she walked over shyly, listen to each of her peers laughter and genoristy with wonder.

Our founder, Karyne spoke to her and said, if you want to help you can join us, and she immediate started to help others in the shelter find their own clothing.

And right there, in a community room full of coats, sweaters, and donated apparel, a new spark flickered to life.
A coat warmed her body.
Other teens warmed her spirit.
And Charisma asked a question we’ll never forget:

“Can I join this program?”

Yes.
Yes, you can.
