Chronic diseases are conditions that last for at least a year and require ongoing medical attention. They can limit daily activities and are the leading cause of illness, disability, and death in the United States. Most chronic diseases don't fix themselves and can't be completely cured, but they can usually be controlled. Some chronic diseases can be immediately life-threatening, while others need intensive management over time.
