Welcome to Urban Food Alliance (UFA), where passionate community members come together to fight food insecurity and its root causes. Founded in 2018 by Mushi and Ally Bhuiyan after discovering food insecurity hidden even in affluent neighborhoods, UFA became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2019 with a mission to provide nutritious meals and empower individuals through skill-building programs.

In the United States, food insecurity remains a critical challenge. In 2023, 13.5% of households experienced food insecurity, impacting more than 18 million families. Hunger is especially severe in our communities, worsened by cuts in federal aid and rising costs. Meanwhile, nearly 30-40% of food in the U.S. is wasted, food that UFA rescues and redirects to those in need.

UFA’s dual approach means we do more than just feed the hungry. Through workforce development, career mentoring, and job training, including AI education and digital skills, we equip people to build sustainable futures and break cycles of poverty. We also foster community through family volunteering and deliver food directly to those facing barriers in accessing support.
