Ubuntu: The Spirit of Togetherness

Inaugural Annual Gala in Support of the African Center for Community Development (ACCD)

Every day, African immigrants and families in Dane County work to build new lives, create economic opportunities, preserve cultural traditions, and help their children thrive. Yet many continue to face significant barriers, including navigating unfamiliar systems, accessing resources, building professional networks, and finding a sense of belonging in their new community.

The African Center for Community Development (ACCD) is the only nonprofit organization in Dane County dedicated exclusively to serving African immigrant and their families. Through its four pillars of workforce development, culture & education, health & wellness initiatives, and small business assistance, ACCD provides a trusted community hub where families can connect, grow, and succeed.

On November 14, we invite you to join us for our inaugural annual fundraising celebration inspired by the African philosophy, Ubuntu: The Spirit of Togetherness, "I am because we are." Ubuntu, is a call to action for collective empowerment, reminds us that our well-being is connected and that thriving communities are built through shared responsibility, compassion, and collective action.

The evening will bring together community leaders, business partners, foundations, and supporters to celebrate the strength and contributions of African immigrant and families in Dane County through:

An authentic Taste of Africa dining experience featuring cuisine from across the continent.
Dynamic cultural performances showcasing African music, poetry, dance, and storytelling.
nspiring stories from community members whose lives have been transformed through ACCD's programs.
Opportunities to connect with local leaders, business owners, and champions of community development.
A shared commitment to creating pathways to opportunity, economic mobility, and belonging for all.

Funds raised will support ACCD programs serving African immigrants and their families throughout Dane County.
