We’re stepping in because our children deserve better.

On June 30, UPMC the largest healthcare provider in Pennsylvania officially stopped providing affirming care for trans youth 19 and under. Other providers already have. That means: Therapy is being denied or cut off Puberty blockers are no longer being prescribed Trans youth are being pushed out of affirming spaces, where they were once respected and seen

Let’s be clear: this is not about surgeries. No one is performing surgeries on children.

This is about stripping away access to basic, lifesaving care and replacing it with fear and misinformation.

Now, families are left scrambling, often forced to pay out-of-pocket for affirming therapy, puberty blockers, or care from private providers. And for those with UPMC insurance, many of these services are no longer covered at all.

That’s why Trans YOUniting, in partnership with a statewide coalition, is launching the Trans Youth Healing & Health Fund—a mutual aid effort to help families bridge the gap while we continue fighting to restore healthcare access.

This fund will help trans youth:

Receive affirming therapy

Access puberty blockers

Connect to private providers when public options fall short

Find care in spaces where they are respected, called by their name and pronouns, and treated with dignity

Most of the fund will go directly to trans youth in Pittsburgh and across Pennsylvania. A portion will support the behind-the-scenes work it takes to make sure the money reaches families quickly, safely, and with care.

We’re working to raise $200,000 by November—but if we reach that goal sooner, we’ll begin distributing funds immediately. Because care can’t wait.
