The Massena Arts and Theater Association, Inc. (MATA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit restoring the historic Schine Theater in downtown Massena, NY — transforming a long-vacant 14,000 sq. ft. landmark into a vibrant, multi-use community arts and event center.

Our mission is to revitalize downtown Massena through arts, culture, and connection, reimagining this 1930s gem as a space for live theater, concerts, films, conferences, and community gatherings that will boost the local economy and regional tourism.

Thanks to grants and generous supporters, we’ve already completed environmental cleanup, façade stabilization, and marquee restoration — with over $2.7 million in secured funding from ESD DRI (Downtown Revitalization Initiative) in conjunction with the Village of Massena, Restore NY, NYPA, Development Authority of the North Country, St. Lawrence River Valley Redevelopment Agency, St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency, SeaComm Federal Credit Union, and local partners.

Now, we’re entering our final phase: completing the interior build-out and equipping the space for performances and events.
