In Cambodia, a motorcycle crash, a heat stroke in the fields, or a venomous snakebite can become deadly simply because help arrives too late. Most rural communities live hours from medical care. But what if the person standing nearby knew what to do?

This fall, we are launching Cambodia’s first Village First Aid & Wilderness First Responder Instructor Course, in partnership with SOLO Wilderness Medical Schools and the Asclepius Snakebite Foundation. These two organizations have trained over 750,000 students worldwide and reduced snakebite fatalities from 30% to 2% in their clinics.

This 90+ hour, faith-based course will be held in Kep, Cambodia and will train 30 to 40 trusted community leaders: pastors, teachers, youth workers, and nonprofit staff to become certified first aid instructors. These leaders will return to their communities equipped to teach thousands more in critical, life-saving skills such as:

Trauma and bleeding control
Heat illness care and hydration rescue
Snakebite response and field stabilization
Safe evacuation procedures
And most importantly, the hope of Jesus Christ as part of their teaching

We’ve already translated the course -successfully used in Jerusalem- into Khmer, Cambodia’s national language. These instructors will not only save lives in their own villages but will also use this training to reach hard-to-access youth and communities through local outreach and discipleship.
