Regina Calcaterra, New York Times Best Selling Author of Etched in Sand, A True Story of Five Siblings Who Survived an Unspeakable Childhood on Long Island

Regina Calcaterra’s memoir Etched in Sand, A True Story of Five Siblings Who Survived an Unspeakable Childhood on Long Island (HarperCollins Publishing, 2013) is a #1 international best-seller and a New York Times best-seller. As a result of Etched in Sand’s messages of resilience, optimism, the plight of foster children, that no child is a lost cause and how we can all positively impact the life of a child in need, it has been integrated into college and high school curricula throughout the U.S. Overcoming a childhood of abuse, neglect and abandonment, Regina rose to serve in several high-profile public-sector roles including being appointed the first woman Chief Deputy County Executive of Suffolk County, the very county where she was in foster care.

New Jersey Senator Linda R. Greenstein

Senator Linda Greenstein has served as a member of the New Jersey Legislature for 25 years. She began her tenure in the New Jersey General Assembly in January 2000 and has been a member of the New Jersey Senate since November 2010. Linda is the first woman to represent the current 14th Legislative District in the Senate, which includes Cranbury, Jamesburg, Monroe, and Plainsboro in Middlesex County and East Windsor, Hamilton, Hightstown and Robbinsville in Mercer County. A full-time legislator, Senator Greenstein serves as Assistant Majority Leader of the State Senate and Chair of the Law and Public Safety Committee. She is also Vice Chair of the Environment and Energy Committee, Vice Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, and Co-Chair of the Legislative Manufacturing Caucus.

Middlesex County Sheriff Mildred S. Scott

On January 1, 2011, Mildred S. Scott was sworn in as the Sheriff of Middlesex County. She is the first female Sheriff for the county of Middlesex and the first African American Sheriff in the state of New Jersey. In 1968, she started off as one of the first females to graduate the county Police Academy to then be sworn in as Sheriff’s Officer, then becoming Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief Warrant Officer until she was made Chief Sheriff Officer in 1991, the first female to serve as the highest law enforcement officer in Middlesex County. During her long career at the Sheriff’s Office she supervised all Sheriff’s Officers, oversaw all courthouse security, instituted fingerprinting programs in schools, established a senior citizen home security program and coordinated prisoner transport services with twenty-five municipalities within Middlesex County.
