Join us for a volunteer stewardship day at Platte Clove Preserve as we continue work on a new trail designed to create a safer, more sustainable route through the property.

Earlier this summer, the Catskill Center partnered with Parks Project to rally volunteers to help build a new trail at Platte Clove Preserve. The rerouted trail moves visitors away from the cliff edge and muddy areas that have experienced increased wear with growing visitation. Our volunteers made incredible progress, and now we’re coming back to finish the job!

During this volunteer workday, we’ll be sidehilling, installing fencing, and marking the new trail, along with additional trails throughout the property.

Date: Saturday, September 5, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Location: Platte Clove New Parking Area, across from the DEC Upper Platte Clove Parking Area, 2425 Platte Clove Rd, Elka Park, NY 12427. Look for two large orange cones across from the DEC lot entrance; we’ll be there to help direct you to parking in the dirt lot.

Please come prepared for a morning of outdoor work. Long sleeves, pants, and sturdy footwear are recommended, as the terrain can be muddy and uneven. Bringing a packed lunch is encouraged, with snacks and drinks provided by the Catskill Center and Parks Project. Weather in this area can change quickly, so a rain jacket is a good idea.

We’ll be using hand tools throughout the day, and a safety demonstration will be provided before work begins. Gloves, tools, bug spray, sunscreen, and other safety equipment will be supplied. Ticks are common in this area, so please take appropriate precautions and check thoroughly after the event.

Registration is required. Please complete all volunteer forms prior to arrival. A limited number of copies will be available on site. All ages are welcome. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and those under 18 must have permission.
