Mali is the second largest country in West Africa with a population of nearly 22 million. It is two-thirds desert. One out of four Malians have NO nearby source of clean water. Every year in Mali, over 4,700 children under the age of five die from diarrhea caused by dirty water, and poor toilets and hygiene. Imagine being extremely hot and thirsty, but there is no clean water for miles and miles!

Mali is considered the hottest country in the world! In some areas of Mali the temperatures get as high as 122 degrees in the hot season, which stretches from March to June. This year Mali is having the hottest weather that anyone in Mali can remember! Already hundreds of people have died because of the heat this year… and it’s not letting up.

What they would do for a cup of fresh well water right now! Now more than ever, Mali needs more wells! Praise International would like to bring some urgent relief to a village in Mali with NO WELL, no source of clean water.

Dièro is a village almost 100 miles SW of Bamako, Mali’s capital. There are about 2500 villagers living there. Imagine, this village has no fresh, clean water. People have to walk miles every day in the hot sun to have water for drinking, cooking and cleaning, even to water their gardens. If they are fortunate, they may be able to use a little donkey cart to transport their water. Most carry the water on their heads.

The well that Praise International builds costs $12,000. It is a very high quality solar-powered well, guaranteed to effectively and consistently provide fresh water. We make sure it is maintained and protected. There will be a 24/7 guardian at the well, who will oversee the well usage and protect it from vandalism.

Will you help us bring water to the village of Dièro? This is a time-sensitive project. We need to build this well as soon as possible.
