This year, WCCS is celebrating 60 years of service to Warren County residents through programs such as Head Start, Home Delivered Meals, Utility Assistance, and more. To mark this milestone, we are hosting a fundraising luncheon on September 23 at Miami Valley Gaming with a very specific goal: helping ensure our most vulnerable children can get to school and access the services they need to succeed.

TIP (Therapeutic Interagency Preschool) is a part of our Head Start program that serves Warren County children ages 3–5 who have experienced abuse, neglect, family instability, substance misuse in the home, foster care placement, and other trauma. These young children need a safe, consistent environment where they can learn, build friendships, and develop the skills necessary to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. TIP provides trauma-informed early childhood education, on-site mental health counseling, family support services, and individualized care in small classrooms with a 4:1 child-to-teacher ratio.

Reliable transportation is an important part of the program; without it, many children miss school. Over the last several months, transportation was unavailable on more than a dozen separate days at the two TIP locations due to mechanical failures, inspection issues, and heating system problems. The impact on attendance was dramatic - on two of those days, only 2 of our 24 enrolled children were able to attend school. In many cases, attendance drops by more than half whenever transportation is unavailable.

For children who have already experienced instability, missing school means missing counseling, educational opportunities, and critical interventions that help change the course of their lives. TIP is a proven program that achieves an 80% success rate if children maintain strong attendance, and it consistently helps children make significant gains in social-emotional development, learning, language, literacy, and kindergarten readiness - but these outcomes depend on children being able to get to school.

A reliable bus would:

Provide safe, dependable transportation for children every day.
Eliminate attendance barriers for families facing transportation challenges.
Ensure uninterrupted access to counseling, education, and support services.
Reduce costly emergency repairs and service disruptions.

Our goal for this luncheon is to raise $100,000 to purchase a safe, reliable bus that will serve children in the TIP program for years to come. We have several different quotes that place a used bus in good condition within that range.
