Through the power of dance, we reach into our communities, step into new ones, and expand the unity that binds us all. Dance is our vehicle, and togetherness is our destination.

For 43 years, West Chester Dance Works (WCDW) has fulfilled its mission to uplift, nurture, and transform dancers and communities through an accessible, inclusive dance experience.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization, we provide informed dance instruction, thoughtful community outreach, and inspirational performances for audiences of all ages. Our vision is to make dance a vehicle for improved outlook, reconciliation, awareness, and unity among all people—regardless of ethnicity, socioeconomic background, religion, race, or gender.

Founded in 1983, WCDW has been a minority-run, woman-owned organization led by a diverse team dedicated to creating opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to experience the many benefits of dance.

Our programs and performances work to:

Promote healthy lifestyles through movement and education
Connect artistic expression with advocacy, especially for underserved youth
Build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills
Foster self-esteem and peer-to-peer support

Our five performing companies bring artistic enrichment to schools, hospitals, senior facilities, festivals, and other venues—reaching audiences who might not otherwise experience dance. The Diane Matthews School of Dance Arts, our resident studio and educational arm, offers quality instruction and community access to the art of dance.
