The current state of child care is challenging. Early childhood programs across Oklahoma are facing staffing shortages, high turnover, rising costs, and limited access to resources—all while the demand for high-quality care continues to grow. These challenges impact not only early childhood professionals, but also families, employers, and most importantly, young children during their most critical years of development.

During Week of the Young Child, we celebrate the joy, learning, and promise of early childhood—but we also acknowledge the real and urgent needs of the field.

As an affiliate of both the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Southern Early Childhood Association (SECA), OKAEYC works to keep early childhood professionals informed, supported, and connected. Our members actively participate in:

Legislative and advocacy efforts that elevate the early childhood profession
Quality improvement initiatives and accreditation support
Reviewing and sharing evidence-based practices
Building meaningful professional development opportunities
Strengthening professional recognition and growing membership across the state

Through events like the Week of the Young Child Resource Fair, we bring families, providers, and community partners together—connecting them with resources, education, and support at a time when the field needs it most.
