This Giving Tuesday, December 3, 2024, we are asking for support to fund a critical piece of equipment for our NICU/Nursery!

We are in need of a second Transcutaneous Bilirubin (TcB) monitor. The one we have currently has been AMAZING with helping get infant discharges out faster, helping providers in their clinical decision making, and relieving stress from the lab techs from having to obtain a serum bili on EVERY baby born on our unit. For example, we have, on average, 140 babies a month who would be poked for blood but with the TcB we no longer have to do that on every baby!

Transcutaneous Bilirubin (TcB) is a non-invasive method for measuring bilirubin levels in the skin, and it has several advantages over other methods:

Painless: TcB measurement is painless, unlike the invasive and painful heel prick or venous blood sampling required for total serum bilirubin (TSB) measurement.

Quick: TcB provides almost immediate results, which can help with clinical decision-making. This means we see infants with shorter stays because treatment starts early. Also, families do not have to wait for hours for the blood sample result to come back from lab. This means they can go home with their new baby much sooner!

Reduces need for blood sampling: TcB can reduce the need for blood sampling by 41–73%.

Reduces risk of infection: TcB reduces the chances of infections associated with invasive procedures.

All funds raised through this Giving Tuesday campaign will allow the Williamson Health Foundation to purchase a TcB monitor for our OB/NICU department!
