Investing in the Shelby Literacy Center (SLC) is investing in our community.  We walk alongside adults looking to improve their own lives and the lives of their families by advancing their literacy and life skills.

Almost 70% of our students are at or below the poverty level.  We serve single parents, war refugees, widows, grandmothers, and families who have a desire to learn, improve their finances, and participate fully in our community.

The SLC offers language classes and tutoring for adults wanting to learn or improve their English, study support for adults working to earn their high school diploma, a job skills platform for jobseekers looking to gain better employment, and book gifting program for pre-K-12th graders that promotes reading engagement. Many of our students take advantage of more than one of our programs.

The good news is that we are growing and on track to serve more families this year than we did in 2022! This also means we need to ask for donations to enable us to continue our work into 2024.
