Investing in the Shelby Literacy Center (SLC) is investing in our community. We walk alongside adults who look to improve their own lives and the lives of their families. Our mission is to empower all adults to reach their personal goals by providing opportunities to learn literacy and life skills. We serve single parents, war refugees, widows, grandmothers, accountants, doctors...anyone who has a desire to learn, improve their finances, and participate fully in our community.

The SLC offers language classes and tutoring for adults wanting to learn or improve their English, study support for adults working to earn their high school diploma, a job skills platform for jobseekers looking to gain better employment, and book gifting program for pre-K-12th graders that promotes reading engagement. Many of our students take advantage of more than one of our programs. Our SLC scholarship fund ensures we never have to turn anyone away - education is for everyone.
