This is what Women's Prison Association (WPA) is all about: offering choices and creating opportunities for women impacted by incarceration, the population we've worked with since 1845. We are the nation's first organization committed to supporting women (and girls) involved with the criminal legal system. Here's what some of the mission-driven work we do means today, according to our frontline staff:

For Merlyn Mejia, a Case Manager for our Alternatives to Incarceration (ATI) program, it means advocating for women in court, demonstrating to judges and prosecutors that our participants are assets to society.
For Rita Felton, a Linkage and Navigation Specialist with our Prison-Based Services (PBS) team, it means being the first face to greet women coming home from upstate prisons—some of whom have spent decades behind bars.
For Shanikka White, Director of our Community-Based Programming (CBP), it means fighting for custody and acquiring permanent housing for mothers impacted by incarceration.
