Help Rebuild Westernport Library in Westernport, MD After Historic Flooding

On May 13, 2025, historic flooding swept through the Westernport Main Street community, causing severe damage to homes, businesses, and public spaces—including the Westernport Library, a vital resource and gathering place for residents of all ages.

Though the building still stands, the interior has suffered significant losses. Much of the furniture, equipment, and library collections—including thousands of books, children’s materials, and technology—were damaged or destroyed.

The Allegany County Library System is working with local officials and restoration experts to assess the full scope of the damage. But we already know: this recovery will take time, support, and heart.

While the library is covered by Federal Flood Insurance, unfortunately, it will not cover the full scope of damage or replacement costs.

How You Can Help
Your donation will go directly toward restoring the Westernport Library’s spaces and services. Funds raised will help us:

Replace furniture and shelving
Rebuild the damaged collections (books, DVDs, children’s materials, etc.)
Restore access to computers, printers, and other essential equipment
Create a welcoming, functional space for learning, reading, and community connection once again
