What to Expect: Our virtual vigil will feature inspired music, survivor testimony, advocate address and a candlelit moment of silence in remembrance of victims whose lives were stolen by domestic violence and in honor of survivors moving beyond abuse.
Story
Each year, as the state-designated comprehensive domestic violence service agency for Middlesex County, we shelter 200 women and children in imminent danger, and serve an additional 1,800 women, children and men in safety net programs. Our comprehensive services provide support across the spectrum of client needs—from emergency crisis intervention to long-term efforts toward independent living:
Women Aware is the only domestic violence shelter in Middlesex County, which reported 4,336 domestic violence offenses in 2019, according to the New Jersey State Police. Through the pandemic, we have seen abuse become more lethal, and we have seen an increase in sexual assault of children. It has been a dangerous and, in some tragic cases, deadly time. It is critical that Women Aware stand strong, continuing to provide free and confidential services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.

as part of the vigil. Music For All Seasons has brought the healing power of music
to the residents of Women Aware for the past two decades.
Singer Stevens has toured internationally, performing jazz and classic Rhythm and Blues,
accompanying herself on keyboard.
