New York is categorized as a state with a high prevalence of individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and that includes the Mohawk Valley. Many of us know friends, family, or members of our community whose lives have been impacted by a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

At Community Wellness Partners, we have seen first-hand the positive impact our socialized programs, services, and education provide to those who are dealing with the effects of Parkinson’s Disease. It is important that we continue to invest in strengthening our current programs and expand our services so we may reach more individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s and fight the progression of the disease.

Since its inception, our annual Parkinson’s Awareness Walk has touched the lives of thousands in the Parkinson’s Community. Please join us in supporting our community members who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and their friends, family, and caregivers. Funds raised support our Parkinson's programs and services to include:

Rock Steady Boxing: Studies have shown that rigorous exercise, emphasizing gross motor
movement, balance, core strength, and rhythm, favorably impacts the range of motion, flexibility, posture,
gait, and activities of daily living. Additional studies show that intense “forced” exercise, suggesting that
certain kinds of exercise may be neuro-protective, and slow disease progression. Rock Steady
Boxing is a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum that aims to improve the quality of life of people with Parkinson’s disease through a non-contact, boxing-based fitness curriculum. Rock Steady Boxing classes are held at our Wellness Center on our Presbyterian Campus.

Outpatient Therapy Services include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy. Our therapy programs include Lee Silverman Voice Therapy, both LSVT LOUD and LSVT BIG, which are effective, evidence-based, and empowering treatments for people in all stages of Parkinson’s disease with application to other neurological conditions. Both are standardized therapy protocols
that are customized to the unique goals of individuals across a range of disease severity and communication impairments. LSVT LOUD helps people with Parkinson's disease improve
communication. LSVT BIG helps people with Parkinson's disease improve mobility and daily living activities. Community Wellness Partners has a team of therapists with certifications in
LSVT BIG and LSVT LOUD.

The William and Rita Abraham Speaker Series provides education and insights from different speakers, topics, and perspectives related to Parkinson’s disease. The series is held four times annually and is free of charge to community members.

The William and Rita Abraham Speaker Series was created by William (Bill) Abraham and his children, Wade and Marie Abraham, Jennifer and Alan Rust, and Andrea Sandock, in honor of their wife and mother, Rita Abraham.
