By the Grace of God: Second and 50th Chances

For most of us, life is full of second chances. We stumble, we learn, we begin again. But for survivors of human trafficking, even a single second chance can feel impossible. The reality is stark: the statistics show that very few survive more than five years after being trapped in trafficking. To stand here today as a survivor is not just resilience—it is only by the grace of God.

God’s grace is what allows second chances. And sometimes, His mercy carries us not only into a second chance, but into a 50th chance—a reminder that no matter how broken the world tries to make us, His love makes healing possible.

That is why the Survivor Network of North Carolina and its sister chapter, the Survivor Network Virginia, are partnering with Second and 50th, a nonprofit committed to extending grace upon grace, to create an Emergency Fund for Survivors in Virginia.

This fund will directly support survivors of trafficking in Virginia with emergency needs—housing, food, transportation, medical care, and the basic tools to rebuild their lives. It is about more than survival—it is about thriving. Every gift is a lifeline, reminding survivors in Virginia that they are not forgotten, that their lives matter, and that God’s grace is alive and active through the generosity of His people.

Because of God’s grace, we can all offer someone their second chance—or even their 50th. Together, let’s be the hands and feet of hope for survivors across Virginia.
