Millions worldwide are suffering from chronic pain, migraine, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, pelvic pain and many other functional syndromes or medically unexplained symptoms. Most people and even most health care professionals assume the cause for these symptoms cannot be found and no cure is possible. But scientific studies now confirm that these symptoms are generated by the brain, can happen to anyone, and can be successfully treated using Pain Relief Psychology. But we need your help to educate people about these results.

ABOUT THE PPDA

The Psychophysiologic Disorders Association is a 501(c)(3 ) nonprofit founded in 2011 to end the chronic pain epidemic and opioid crisis by advancing the awareness, diagnosis and treatment of brain-generated symptoms (PPD) that affect one in five adults worldwide.

The PPDA provides continuing education for health professionals, recovery resources for patients (including a directory of practitioners), consultation for healthcare organizations about achieving the quadruple aim, support for clinical research and raising global awareness. OUR IMPACT

Here are a couple of highlights illustrating our growing impact:

The University of Colorado Boulder study that we supported was published in JAMA Psychiatry and featured in The Washington Post and CBS News in 2021. This was the first randomized controlled trial showing that chronic back pain (for an average of ten years) not only can be managed but can be cured using a mind-body approach! Of 151 total participants, 66% randomized to Pain Relief Psychotherapy were pain-free or nearly pain-free at posttreatment (reporting a pain intensity score of 0 or 1 of 10), compared with 20% randomized to placebo and 10% randomized to usual care. Treatment effects were maintained at 1-year follow-up.

We have presented the two largest Psychophysiologic Disorders conferences in history in 2021 and 2023 with a total of over 50 speakers and over 600 attendees from around the world. Recordings of both conferences are available. The 2024 Conference is in-person on Sep 26-28 in Boulder, CO, USA.

We have published two professional textbooks, co-produced three documentary films, supported new ongoing research studies, and provide two video courses and one text-based course on PPD.

Grow our Membership Program that provides pricing advantages and global Q&A webinars.
Host the 2024 and 2025 Conferences, building on 2023's success.
Continue our work to add the psychophysiologic approach to more healthcare curricula and professional conference programs.
Continue to scientifically advise healthcare organizations, others in the psychophysiologic medicine field, and awareness projects.

Our greatest need is to expand our team. Currently, we have only two full-time staff along with 8 part-time volunteers on our Board of Directors. When funded, we plan to hire a Medical Director and a Development Director. Expanding our team will exponentially increase our ability to reach those in need with our projects, programs, and services.
