The Staten Island Zoo has been selected to participate in the Diamond Matching Grant Program through the Staten Island Foundation. For every dollar we raise, the Staten Island Foundation will match those funds on a 2 to 1 basis. That means for every $1 you give; the Staten Island Foundation will give $2 – tripling your support. This fall we hope to raise $25,000 through your generosity, which would bring the total amount of funding to $75,000.

This extraordinary opportunity will allow the Staten Island Zoo to acquire diagnostic medical equipment for the veterinary care of our diverse animal population from leopards and lemurs to owls and alligators.

The Zoo is home to over 800 animals and 231 species. Our veterinary team operates daily to ensure the health of our animal residents and continuously updates protocols in step with modern veterinary practices. However, our diagnostic equipment is in need of an update. This equipment will significantly enhance our ability to provide advanced, humane, and effective medical intervention for our Zoo animals.

Your donation would fund critical diagnostic upgrades, including a portable X-ray machine, which can be brought directly to an animal exhibit. This reduces the need to anesthetize animals and bring them to the animal hospital. Your donation will allow us to purchase a state-of-the-art portable X-ray machine specifically tailored to exotic wildlife. It would serve a vital role in early detection and less invasive treatments.
