Founded in 2001, Safe Haven Sanctuary came into being. Purchasing property in a rural area we saw an immediate need for not only rescue but also a sanctuary. All of the no kill shelters within a 50-mile radius were full. No one was taking cats. And so, it began. One by one, we brought them in. We spayed or neutered them, gave them love and nurturing that they were craving. Most of all we provided a safe and warm forever home.

Current Activities

Many communities we live and work in provide low cost spay and neuter and veterinary clinics. Those things help our communities and those that may be struggling. We provide services to these animals in crisis on a daily basis, 24 hours a day. Some may be surprised to learn that we run the full gamut of services to these special creatures, we call cats, such as: ▪ Immediate spay and neuter ▪ Enclosed outside play area ▪ Screened porch ▪ Separated rooms for kittens and their moms, older and special needs ▪ Fresh and clean blankets every day (aka 24 hour laundry service!) ▪ Full service cleaning every day (including scrubbing floors, shelves and windows!) ▪ Individual specialized care for those in need (including food, medicine, etc) ▪ Air Conditioning in the summer time ▪ Heating in the winter ▪ 24 hour monitored climate control for their comfort ▪ 24 hour monitored hospice care

Safe Haven Sanctuary has been recognized by Marion County Animal Services as a leader in this area. Their last visit to our sanctuary was conclusive that we provided a superlative program even compared to theirs. “This is miles ahead of anything we can offer these cats. Organized, clean and effective at providing a safe and loving home.”

All with the goal of preventing animal cruelty. Our success rate = 100% over the last 20 years!

Our hope would be that we can inspire other communities around the country to adopt our program and together we could become a positive force in preventing animal cruelty.
