After enduring war's hardships, Le Ly Hayslip moved to the US in 1970 and achieved success as a restaurateur, real estate investor, and entrepreneur in San Diego. Yet, her heart remained tied to her homeland and the family she left behind.

In 1986, after 16 years in the US, she returned to Vietnam and was disheartened by the devastating impact of the US embargo, which left the country impoverished. Driven by a profound sense of purpose, she aimed to bridge the gap between her motherland and her adopted country. Her mission became healing war victims through humanitarian efforts, contributing to world peace, and actively participating in Vietnam's rebuilding after a century of conflicts.

Inspired by subsequent trips to Vietnam and her collaboration with American Veterans for Peace, she founded the East Meets West Foundation in 1988.

Le Ly has been unstoppable ever since.

In 1999, Le Ly established Global Village Foundation (GVF) with a focus on Central Vietnam’s disadvantaged population, specifically impoverished youth and orphans, and those living with disabilities, including deaf children. GVF has successfully partnered with global nonprofits like GlobeAware (US) and Peace Boat (Japan).
