Louis landed with People Helping Paws Dog Rescue (PHPDR) after being abandoned when he was only 6 months old and left out to wander rural Missouri. Since coming to us, he has been living it up in his foster home and blossomed into a goofy, loving dog. Louis is super playful and silly and would love nothing more than to romp and run around all day.

But, unfortunately for Louis, he has bad knees! The vets identified a partially and possibly fully torn CCL (canine cruciate ligament) on his right hind leg and a fully torn CCL and slipped knee disc in his left hind leg. In order to repair his knees, the next course of action recommended is surgery so he can live a full and pain-free life. As a small rescue organization, the cost of this surgery is one that is beyond our normal scope. We've opted for pain management and lifestyle modifications for Louis to help until we are able to gather the funds, but that is not ideal for him.

At PHPDR, our mission is to save the dogs who are often euthanized in shelters due to being an undesirable breed or having illness/injury. We believe every life is worth saving. Our goal has been set based on the average cost of surgery we've received from various veterinary partners and cost of the consults and aftercare.
