Todo amor é sagrado ("Every Love is Sacred") is my new documentary film about the life and work of my aunt, Sister Angela Carey.

We travel to the periphery of São Paulo, Brazil where Sister Angela and her partner Luis Carlos reveal how their lifetime of faith and politics together inspired Projeto Sol a human rights movement for marginalized youth.

48 years ago, at the height of the military dictatorship, they organized the community to transform a trash dump into a youth community center with ballet, soccer, art classes, free meals for neighborhood children, and more. They created a refuge from violence and oppression where spiritual and political resistance has flourished for three generations.

Decades later, their students are now the teachers and are guiding today’s youth to use art and activism to create a better world.

As we finish the film, Friends of Projeto Sol are coming together to raise money in support of this extraordinary community institution. As someone who has seen a lot of great community work over the years, I can tell you that Projeto Sol is something special with a unique and powerful impact. My film is a small and humble tribute to the life-changing work of this organization committed to liberation.
