Why Teach Music Week?

Keep Music Alive is celebrating the milestone 10th Annual "Teach Music Week" from Monday March 18th to Sunday March 24th. We are encouraging musicians and music schools everywhere to find one new student they can begin to teach by offering one free 30 minute lesson. We all know, that often the biggest hurdle to anything is just getting started. We believe that by encouraging music teachers and potential students to reach out to each other, many of these new students will continue to learn and play music long after the month of March is over. Our ultimate goal is to help more kids and adults reap the educational, therapeutic and social benefits of playing music.

What you can expect:

This free 30-minute music class will be a co-exploration of musical instruments, singing, and dancing! Throughout the event, children will...

Discover how to make music with their mouth, hands, feet, and various instruments
Investigate cause-and-effect relationships with instruments through touch and sound
Practice self-control and self-regulation
Develop fine motor skills through instrument exploration
Develop gross motor skills through dancing

How caregivers can support children in the class:

Model what active participation looks like, sing, play, dance, and be free!
Take breaks as needed, listen to your child’s cues, and help them participate at any level
Keep talking voices low to help keep the overall volume down so everyone can hear the lesson
