This sweet baby was was found wandering the streets of Alvaredo. No collar and no chip! It was immediately obvious he needed help. Hanging down just above his right eye was a fist sized tumor! He was placed on stray hold, and not suprisingly, was unclaimed. Because of the tumor and his general appearance, he was marked "rescue only".

Seeing him broke our heart, so we instantly scooped him up and had him transported to Dallas.

The vet identified the following:

Large external mass over right eye; large internal mass on left hindquarter; advanced periodontal disease; kidney values indicating renal failure! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, deaf and blind! Many would simply EU him and move on, and although there are situations where that does make sense, he just had a charm about him and showed a desire to fight, soooooo...

We named him Alvin and got to work on a plan for his care!

First, we needed to improve his kidney values, so a diet was created to address that. We also gave him daily subcutaneous fluids to help flush the toxins and keep him hydrated. The vet did a fine needle aspirate on both growths which came back negative for cancer!

After a few weeks, his blood was retested, and his kidney values improved to the point where we could proceed with removing his tumors and address his teeth.

On March 5th, Alvin went to VetSavers in Dallas under the watchful eye of Dr. Bak who successfully performed his surgeries.

Alvin came through the surgeries with flying colors and is now convalesing with Pooch Savers Rescue.

On March 26th, his sutures will be removed, and we will begin looking for a loving home for him.
