Meet Zander, the 15-year-old award-winning young entrepreneur photographer, whose passion for art, photography, fishing, and music was abruptly interrupted by a life-threatening incident on Feb 22, 2024, in San Antonio. Gifted his first professional camera at a Christmas event hosted by the San Antonio Spurs, Zander is a familiar face in the local small business scene—known for his dedication to setting up, tearing down, and everything in between. Now, in the face of adversity, we're rallying together to raise funds for Zander's medical and living expenses. Join us as his small business friends host multiple markets to showcase his incredible work and support his journey to recovery.

MAY 2024 UPDATES

Welcome to the May edition of our Hospital Recovery Newsletter! This month has been a mix of excitement and challenges, and we're grateful to share the progress and experiences of our community.

Zander's Journey:

OT Milestone: Zander had his first Occupational Therapy (OT) appointment, which went exceptionally well! He won't need to return to the clinic as we continue his fine motor skill development at home.
Dental Health: Zander visited the dentist and, fortunately, his wisdom teeth are already out. Once he's healed from his surgery, we'll discuss the possibility of removing the remaining teeth.
Special Events: Zander had some memorable experiences, attending his sister's college graduation and even saying "yes" to prom! These moments of normalcy amidst recovery are invaluable.
Eye Health Update: Zander had an eye appointment revealing challenges with his right eye. He'll undergo surgery to fix the lens and address dried blood, with hopes of preserving his vision and nerve health.
Community Engagement: Zander participated in Trauma Survivors Day events, connecting with others who understand his journey. Additionally, his artwork will be showcased at the Presa House Gallery, celebrating his creativity and resilience.
Support Networks: We met with Victor from TBI Warriors, who will be Zander's advocate throughout his recovery. Zander also led a Trauma Survivors Day Walk, symbolizing his strength and leadership within our hospital community.
Therapeutic Support: Zander has begun Occupational Therapy with our dear friend GiGi, a retired OT professional with decades of experience. He's also preparing for upcoming Physical Therapy and psychiatric appointments.

We're incredibly proud of Zander's progress and grateful for the support of our hospital community and beyond. Thank you for joining us on this journey of recovery and resilience.
