Jerald Times is leading a transformative legal battle against Success Academy Charter Schools, Inc., addressing systemic discrimination and the challenges educators of color face within the institution. The lawsuit, 'Times v. Success Academy Charter Schools, Inc., et al.' (Case No. 1:2023cv03229), filed in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, aims to rectify these disparities. Jerald advocates for equal opportunities and fair treatment for all educators, regardless of race. This case transcends individual struggles and embodies the spirit of Brown v. Board of Education. Just as that landmark case dismantled segregation, Jerald's fight seeks to dismantle systemic discrimination and champion social justice in education, inspiring a brighter, more equitable future for all.

Jerald Times: A Beacon of Hope and Excellence

Jerald is a native New Yorker and a Harlemite. Jerald started playing chess at age eleven, which he says was way too old to start. But somehow he caught up and became the Harlem Chess Champion at age fourteen. In 2002 he was designated Chess Master by FIDE, the World Federation of Chess. Jerald graduated Rice High School in Manhattan and received his BS from St. John’s University.

His journey has been one of resilience and achievement

His influence extends globally, having taught from the US to South Africa and while there, rose to the position of National Coach. His innovative methods, blending storytelling, music, and tai chi with chess, have inspired and transformed countless lives and significantly improved his students' academic performance and confidence.

He joined Success Academy in 2019

In 2021 he was designated Chess Educator of the year.
