Improve Your Tomorrow exists to ensure young men of color have the mentorship, guidance, and support they need to access, persist through, and graduate from higher education.

This year, that mission faced many unexpected challenges.

The termination of AmeriCorps contracts created a sudden gap in our ability to provide mentorship and near-peer support, the very relationships that help students stay on track when school and life become overwhelming. While funding was cut, the needs of our students did not disappear.

Mentorship is often the turning point.
It’s the difference between isolation and belonging.
Between giving up and pushing forward.

Through Improve Your Tomorrow, students gain access to mentors who believe in them, walk alongside them, and help them navigate systems that were not built with them in mind. Many of our scholars are first-generation college students balancing academic pressure, financial stress, and the weight of expectations, all while trying to imagine a future they’ve rarely seen modeled.

Despite these challenges, our students are resilient.

We’ve seen students go from failing grades to being on track to graduate. We’ve seen young men who once doubted themselves return to their communities to mentor younger students, reminding them: “If I can do it, you can do it.”

At a time when equity-focused programs are being challenged nationwide, Improve Your Tomorrow remains committed to its core values: access, opportunity, and community. This work has always been powered by people: mentors, students, and supporters who believe in what’s possible when we invest in one another.
