About Me

Hi, I’m Dominique Burleson (Lumbee)—a mom of six, full-time student, speaker, and the founder of Paperbacks & Frybread Co. I started this little indie bookstore to help families decolonize their bookshelves and find stories that reflect who they are. I believe that books can be medicine, stories are sacred—and that visibility, joy, and cultural connection matter more than ever.

About Our Mission

Paperbacks & Frybread Co. is expanding into a mobile bookstore to bring inclusive, diverse books directly to powwows, tribal communities, schools, and events across North Carolina. This isn’t just a business—it’s a movement rooted in Indigenous storytelling, literacy, and love.

We’re raising funds to cover:

✅ A reliable SUV that fits our family and can tow
✅ A 7x12ft trailer outfitted with A/C, heat & electricity
✅ Shelving, insurance & a powerful inventory of books and items from other small businesses
✅ Travel costs to bring books where they’re needed most

This mobile store will let us collaborate with other marginalized-owned businesses, work with indie authors and publishers, and make sure all readers—especially our young ones—see themselves reflected in the stories they read.

For all donations of $250+ we will be adding names/logos to the trailer under a banner that says, "Made Possible by Readers Like You!"
