A Seat at the Table is a three-part series grounded in my lived experience growing up in Yakutat and participating in Tlingit memorial practices. Through those gatherings, I learned that grief was never meant to be carried alone. People came together to offer food, comfort, presence, and care — making space for sorrow while gently helping one another continue living. While this series does not recreate the ceremony or protocols of a ku.éex’, it is guided by those same values of nourishment, connection, reciprocity, and community care.

This series is for anyone carrying loss — whether through the death of a loved one, divorce, the end of a relationship, or another meaningful life change.

Over three evenings, we will:

spend time outside,
walk among local plants,
gather around a fire,
receive a meal prepared with care,
and eventually cook and share food together

No one will be expected to tell their story or grieve in a particular way. This is simply an invitation to be cared for, connect with others, and discover supportive ways to carry grief while continuing to live fully.
