Why Does A.C.T.S. Matter?

Access to mental health resources is crucial for adolescents. To put this into perspective, suicide ranks as the second leading cause of death among teenagers in Georgia. Shocking statistics reveal that Gen Z exhibits the poorest mental health compared to any other generation, with 42% of teenagers in this demographic having been diagnosed with a mental health condition. Clearly, we are facing a mental health crisis.

Interestingly, it has been discovered that improv techniques have been proven effective in teaching emotional regulation, boosting resilience, nurturing critical thinking, and refining conflict-resolution abilities. Leveraging our expertise as improvisers, we are uniquely positioned to make a positive impact on the lives of teens within our community.

In 2022, we established a nonprofit initiative named Front Porch A.C.T.S. This program incorporates the evidence-based Trauma Drama curriculum to cater to our community's needs. Over the past year, we engaged with hundreds of adolescents across middle schools, high schools, youth centers, and homeless shelters, equipping them with essential skills to enhance their mental well-being.
