Happy World Elephant Day!

On World Elephant Day, we invite you to join the critical mission of protecting elephants from the many dangers threatening their survival.This year's focus, "Matriarchs & Memories," celebrates the rich emotional intelligence of elephants and honors the profound wisdom their matriarchs pass down through generations.

Today we're celebrating Tswale the Elephant!

Tswale has lived his life alone with a private owner, surrounded by humans, but none of his elephant family. Early in his life he was used for education interactions and to give rides to humans.

Elephants are sentient beings, a key stone species, vital for Africa’s breathtaking landscapes and ecology. They crave to be around other elephants, to bond and live out their best lives.

Conservationists have tried to rescue Tswale for several years, unsuccessfully - and then the day came - the opportunity to launch

Tswale’s return to the wild!

He is now safely relocated with his lifelong companion, Jivendava, who traveled with him to make Tswale feel safe and protected in this new life. Jivendava’s presence ensured Tswale’s trip was comfortable throughout the whole process, with as little stress as possible - and our partners on the ground tended to his medical well-being.

The plan is for Tswale to be integrated into a small herd where he can live out the rest of his long life with a family of his own. To enjoy the life of a wild elephant in a natural, habitat.

We give our love and thanks to Tswale’s emancipation team: The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA), and WeWild Africa - who are 💯 committed to protecting Tswale.

He deserves to live wild and free.🐘.
